In
the year 2000 a bunch of friends got together at Oak Hill Studios
in Holly MI to learn a couple of Phish tunes while Phish was on
hiatus. After a few line up changes and a couple of experimental
gigs the band Ground Score was formed. From 2001 thru 2003 the
band worked house parties and small gigs while practicing in the
studio and honing their craft.
2004
marked Ground Scores first attempt to play out regularly. The
band reached out across the southeastern MI area and received
a great response from the local audience. Ground Score also enjoyed
a great response from venue owners on their professionalism and
how easy they are to work with. Highlights include The Blind Pig
in Ann Arbor, MI, The Old Miami in Detroit, MI, and The Hayloft
Liquor Stand in Mt Clemens, MI.
Late
in 2004 Ground Score added a new percussionist. Grahm DePouw was
already practicing with the band for a few months when the rest
of the members asked him to come on board as a permanent band
member.
In
2005 the band started the year by playing in the Emergenza Festival.
They also played the Hayloft in Mt. Clemens, The Blind Pig in
Ann Arbor, The Roche Bar in Port Huron, and TC Speakeasy's in
Ypsilanti. Ground Score has become the semi-house band for Churchill’s
Food and Spirits in Flint and have played shows there regularly
since the spring 2005.
2006
has already been an exciting year with gigs, and recording. Ground
Score booked a spring tout that ran in March and April, including
the Monroe Street Fair in Ann Arbor MI. Ground Score is currently
booking show’s for their late summer early fall run starting
in August of this year.
